Paul's Cut
Photography Paul Maffi
Paul’s Cut brings together Paul’s work with that of his dad and uncle—both prolific amateur photographers in Bergamo, Italy. He might be biased, but he thinks their work is fantastic.
Their photos capture everyday life as well as trips and holidays of a working-class northern Italian family from the late ’70s through the ’80s—with touches of England (Paul’s mum is from London), plus scenes from the Sahara, Spain, Greece, France, and all over Italy.

Each issue pairs images from their archive with new photos Paul shoots in response, and takes its title from the person on the cover. The first was called Antonio. For this one, he worked with his friend Coco Gordon Moore, who has an uncanny resemblance to his aunt Tiziana—so he brought the two of them together. He shot Coco over a couple of days at his place and in Central Park. The pictures of his aunt are from 1977–1978
